Chain Saw Sharpeners For the Handy Man

A handyman chain saw sharpener typically sharpens the chain while it is still on the chain saw. This is different than a professional chain saw sharpener that is typically bench mounted or wall mounted.

Dewalt Saw Blade

One advantage of a handyman chain saw sharpener is that it's usually more portable. You will be able to carry this handy device to the job site and pull it out any time for quick touch ups to your chain. Remember, if you're doing any kind of productive work with your chain saw you need a razor sharp chain, and the only way to maintain that sharpness is with frequent sharpening during the job.

Dewalt Saw Blade

You will still get fast, efficient results with a handyman chain saw sharpener. This type of sharpener is surprisingly affordable today, and the benefits of a properly sharpened chain far outweigh the minimal cost involved. Besides, one of the most unsafe aspects of any chain saw is trying to cut when it's dull. Since the chain saw doesn't cut easily when it's dull the operator tries to force it too much and the saw kicks back easier.

In many cases a battery is used for the power source in a home handyman chain saw sharpener. This allows you to bring the sharpener almost anywhere, including a remote jobsite in the woods.

You should still be able to grind any type of chain and size, including 1/4 inch, 0.325 inch, 3/8 inch, and 0.404 inch pitches. However, this level of sharpener will require more manual adjustments and won't be quite as precise. The quality of work will still be excellent, and this type of sharpener should be capable of doing both round and chisel chain styles.

The grinding head will usually be spring loaded, but it is still easily adjusted for different cutting angles. Again, you should expect anywhere from 0 degrees to 35 degrees adjustment.

A portable chain saw sharpener should also have an adjustable chain stop for different depths, as well as a transparent safety guard. The grinding wheels on handyman chain saw sharpeners are typically in the 4 inch to 5 inch diameter range, with motor speeds of 4,000 to 5,000 rpm.

The important factor is that even these portable chain saw sharpeners provide a consistent filing of every tooth on the chain. The guide that is mounted onto the bar ensures consistent sharpening angles for every tooth. The same quality and consistency of sharpening cannot be achieved with a hand held round file and hand guide.

In Review: Makita's SP6000K1 Track Saw System

If you've ever used a track saw, you know that the rail guide system is one of the most innovative, sophisticated cutting systems ever developed, that when using a track saw, you achieve smoother, more accurate, and altogether better results. If you've ever used a Makita power tool, you'll also know that Makita is one of the most high-performance manufacturers in the business, that Makita tools are designed and fabricated to a higher standard of excellence. Now, knowing both of these things, one can naturally deduce that a Makita track saw would be one of the most amazing systems conceivable.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Fortunately for every party involved, Makita does make a track saw, and its amazing. With the capacity to make precise, perfect cuts at any point in a panel, to create straight edges on rough stock, cross cut, bevel cut, rip sheet goods, and etc, the saw is one of those power tools that will consistently impress, and, perhaps even release those proverbial little butterflies in the bellies of even the toughest craftsmen. In the end, the Makita SP6000K1 is a high-performance beauty with the cutting chops to do all your cutting bidding with a refined kind of excellence.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Built around a powerful 6-1/2" plunge cut circular saw and a meticulously designed 55" guide rail, the SP6000K1 system perfectly interacts to produce the smoothest, straightest cuts. In fact, as far as bevel cuts are concerned, Makita's system is very likely the most sophisticated - with dual front and rear bevel supports designed to hold the blade firmly in position as you cut, the saw provides incredibly smooth, dead-on accurate bevel cuts with a nearly unbelievable simplicity and smoothness. The saw's electronic speed control also maintains constant speed under load to ensure your cuts are entirely splinter free and always boasting a mirror-like finish.

With variable speeds ranging from 2,000 - 5,000 RPM and a large cutting and bevel capacity (equip with convenient positive stops at 22.5-degrees and 45-degrees) the saw offers powerful versatility and optimal control over every type of application. The thing also offers nearly to-the-wall cutting for greater working possibilities, and with a soft-start feature and electronic current limiter, the tool's high-performance motor will continue kicking the sass out of your projects for seriously long time. The SP6000K1 is additionally made up of durable and lightweight magnesium components, rendering it well balanced and comfortable to operate while also tough enough to circumvent the rigors of jobsite life.

The saw's smooth plunge release offers additional user comfort and because the thing also provides extremely simple depth adjustments, a depth stop, an electronic brake, fast and simple blade changes, a saw base that is compatible with competing rails, and a rear dust port that can not only connect to a collection system, but automatically redirects dust and debris away from the cutting action, the system is comprehensive and completely awesome.

DeWalt Power Tools History

DeWalt Power Tools - History in the Making

Dewalt Saw Blade

That is how Raymond E. DeWalt the founder started. A second generation construction and mill worker promoted to the head position of a woodworking mill, he was pushed by the owner to pinch the pay of the men in order to get more work out of them. Rather than see his men be paid less, in 1922 Raymond invented the first DeWalt Tool, the first radial arm saw that did the work of 4 men and cut his labor costs immensely.

Dewalt Saw Blade

DeWalt Products Co. - Manufacturer

Two years late Ralph created the DeWalt Products Co. to produce the first of the many widely manufactured and distributed the Tools, the Wonder-Worker, a table saw with radial arm.

Rapid Expansion

The Second World War brought government orders in 1941, for tools and machinery to comply with national defense and wartime requirements.

Power Tools Progress

Over the next 24 years they steadily grew and introduced to new products, the bench grinder in 1967 and metal cutting machines for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in 1971.

Spectacular Growth - Portable Power Tools

The most notable growth of the company came in 1992 when the first portable electric Power Tools and accessories were introduced. These were specifically designed for the baby boomers' housing boom and the increase need for residential contractors, re-modelers, and professional woodworkers.

Power Tools Cordless Revolution

Two years later again, in 1994, DeWalt launched a revolution with their cordless DeWalt Power Tools. These included drill/drivers, screwdrivers, impact drivers, impact wrenches, saws, flashlights, and the first combination drill/driver/hammerdrill.

DeWalt Power Tools Today

Today, there are over 200 electric Power Tools and more than 800 acessories, with new products being introduced every year. DeWalt Inc. makes a special effort to honor their founder and original genius by encouraging submissions of new ideas and inventions to keep DeWalt Power Tools the most innovative and reliable power tool manufacturer today.

The Chop Saw: Changing the Chop Saw Blade

Chop saws are used to cut various materials like metal and wood. You will find that most chop saws lock that helps to keep the spindle in place as you change the saw blade. You can find a chop saw to replace the worn out ones in your local home improvement store. Be sure to read the manual to help you understand the correct thickness for your blade. Most blades have the thickness listed in the center. Here some tips that will help you when changing chop saw blade:

Dewalt Saw Blade

You should never forget to disconnect your chop saw from the outlet prior to changing the blade. Then remove the arm lock pin by pushing down the arm. You should raise the arm of the chop saw until it's fully open. The arm is always spring loaded and you should not release it suddenly. This can lead to damage of the arm if you are not careful.

Dewalt Saw Blade

You should rotate the wheel guard and you will find a mounting bolt. They are used to secure the saw blade on the saw. Be careful and keep the bolts in a safe place to avoid misplacing them

To change the blade, you must lock the spindle. There is a lock button which you press down and it's near the start or motor trigger. You should remove the blade using a socket wrench to loosen the securing bolt. Take off the bolt and outer washer and then remove the blade from the spindle.

Take off the spacer from the worn out blade and put it in the new blade. Then, go to place the new blade in the spindle until it fits properly inside the washer. This will make sure that you do not go through a tough time to tighten the new blade.

A connected power saw can be risky to repair. Even though a power saw makes your work easier, it's listed as one of the most dangerous power tools that people use at home. This means that extreme caution is required. If you are not sure on how to put on a new blade, get someone who has the experience. This will ensure that the chop saw is fitted a new blade properly and made safe for you to use.

As with any power tool, be sure to use safety goggles to protect the eyes, tie back long hair, and do not wear loose fitting clothing when using your chop saw.

Three Kinds of Circular Saws For Three Different Jobs

While there are many types and sizes of circular saws on the market, I would like to discuss what I believe to be the three most important categories. They are: plunge saws with guide rails, worm drive or hypoid saws for construction use and standard-drive circular saws suitable for both home and construction use. Before I delve into all of that, however, I'd like to take a quick look at the basics.

Dewalt Saw Blade

A circular saw allows you to take a relatively small tool to a large work piece and cut it without too much back-breaking labor. In the past, the price for this convenience was inaccuracy because there was no really easy way to force a circular saw to cut straight along a pencil line. For rough construction work like roofing and decking, this was no problem. For fine woodworking, however, the circular saw was not the tool of choice. Most woodworkers rely on the table saw to get the long, straight cuts they need and for good reason. The fence on a table saw gives the constant reference point needed for straight cuts.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Sometimes, however, using a table saw to trim the top of a huge conference table, for instance, turns out to be an impossible task, especially when trying to trim off the ends at 90 degrees to the sides. That's when a very carefully planned approach using a circular saw seems to deliver the best final result. I would draw a pencil line using a long straightedge exactly where I wanted the trim cut to go. I would then carefully measure the distance between the inside (or outside) of the saw blade and the edge of the foot plate of the saw. The next step would be a second pencil line, parallel to the first one and separated from it by the distance I measured between the inside (or outside) of the saw blade and the edge of the foot plate. I would locate an absolutely straight board (ripped straight on the table saw, if necessary) and clamp this across the table top as a guide along the second pencil line. Then, I could make a pretty straight cut along the first pencil line. I would then repeat this for the other end of the table top.

In the past few years, this process has become a whole lot easier. There are now several makes and models of plunge saws that run along metal guide rails, cutting right next to the edge of the rail without cutting into the rail itself. The guide rails don't even need to be clamped to the surface being cut because they have material underneath that keeps them from sliding around. If you feel more comfortable clamping down the guide rail, this can be done, as well. It's a simple matter to lay the guide with its edge along the cut line and then to take the saw and run it down the rail, cutting right next to the lip of the rail.

Because these saws are plunge-type saws, you can begin and/or end a cut in the middle of a sheet of plywood. You could cut out a window or door opening, for instance and have it come out clean and square every time. The best thing about using these track saws is the confidence they give you: You KNOW you can do a perfect job, quickly, accurately, over and over again.

Another kind of circular saw I've used a lot over the years, mostly for construction, is the worm drive saw pioneered by Skil. A framing carpenter needs to be able to cut a lot of lumber all day long. While accuracy is always desirable, it is not as critical to the framer as it would be to a finish carpenter or cabinet maker. Speed is the thing that the framer wants on his side and he (or she) does not want to be saddled with a saw that can't cut the mustard, so to speak. He doesn't want his circular saw to bog down in the middle of cutting a 2 x10 joist or have the sole plate hang up every time it goes across the edge of another board. He does not want to have the saw blade slipping around the saw arbor. What he wants is clean, fast accurate cuts: In short, power.

A worm drive saw delivers the constant power he needs because there is no slack or play anywhere between the powerful motor and the saw teeth that are doing the cutting. The worm gear cuts down a bit on saw blade RPM but trades this off for torque. It is torque, more than speed, that powers a saw blade through thick, wet wood. A diamond-shaped arbor makes it virtually impossible for the blade with a matching diamond-shaped hole to rotate around the arbor. Keeping the number of saw teeth down to 18-24 teeth on a 7 1/4" saw blade also helps. The only problem with early Skil worm drive saws was the weight with those large motors and all that gearing. The solution was to use magnesium instead steel in the construction of the saw wherever possible. The modern magnesium worm drive saws weigh only about 14 to 15 pounds which is more than a standard circular saw but manageable in the strong hands of a muscular framer.

The final category included the kind of saw that most people think of as a circular saw. It is lighter than the worm drive saws and, for most uses, it's plenty powerful enough. Some of these saws are now also be made out of magnesium parts and weigh just over 10 Lbs. This makes them easy to use by the average do-it-yourselfer. Did I mention that they are a lot less expensive than the other types?

Fein Multimaster Blades: How to Make Them Last Longer

Remember when you were a kid, and you got that brand new toy, you remember the Rock em' Sock em' Robots, or the cool new Hot Wheel. Those were great times weren't they? One of the things I remember the most though was when one of those toys broke, it was rough, it sucked!

Dewalt Saw Blade

Well that's the exact same feeling I get when I blowout one of my Fein Multimaster Blades, I hate it, it is so frustrating, I just think, dang there goes twenty bucks right down the drain. The only thing that really consoles me is knowing that I put that blade to good use.

Dewalt Saw Blade

The best way to make your blades last longer is to take it easy on them. That means instead of trying to push them into the material you are trying to cut, you let the blade do the cutting and slowly cut through it.

Another thing to do is make sure there is not any nails or hard metals in what you are cutting into, this is only for those blades not meant to cut metal, or nails.

Also Remember to attach the blade properly, this may sound ridiculous to you, but believe me there are people out there that do this incorrectly almost on a daily basis.

Well now that you know the best ways to protect your Fein Multimaster Blades I guess the next thing you will need to find out is where you can buy them for less than anywhere else.

Miter Saw For Beginners - Safe Operation and Purchase Secrets

If you are like me, you plan on doing your entire list of home improvement projects yourself. And I am sure, you probably already know that sooner than later you will need a Miter Saw for one or more of your wood working projects on the list. As you think about it, safe operation and purchase secrets will come in pretty handy. By all means please, continue reading this article and discover the little known secrets that will help you to be successful.

Dewalt Saw Blade

What is a Miter Saw Anyway? It is a tool used to make angled and compound angled cuts to wood and plastic moldings and trim pieces used in finish carpentry.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Are There Different Types of Miter Saws? Yes there is, they are; the basic miter saw that are often referred to as a powered miter box, then there is the compound miter saw that serves the same function as the miter box and adds the ability of cutting two angles at the same time and then there is the sliding compound miter saw that takes it one step further by allowing the user to make compound angled cuts on wider materials.

How Do I Know Which Saw I Need? That is a tricky question, how will you be using the saw is the first question you need to ask yourself to get at the best choice for your wants and needs. Once you have established your list of needs, ask yourself what you want.

Some of us want the cheapest thing we can get that will do the job while others of us want the best thing available, it is the whole Lexus versus the Taurus thing.

The Powered Miter Box is a great tool for making miter cuts to quarter round, small baseboard moldings and chair rails that are going to lay flat on the floor or wall.

They are also good to use for squaring off the ends of a 2 by 4 and making 45 degree angle cuts as well but, nothing larger there compact size has limits.

A Compound Miter Saw has the same capabilities of the miter box and then some. These saw types enable the operator to make cuts in two angles at the same time.

This feature comes in handy when installing crown moldings where the wall and the ceiling meet create a 90 degree angle and the corner forms another 90 degree angle in a different direction. Try saying that three times fast.

These types of saws are available in different size blade models. They use the same saw blades as do their cousins the circular saws and are found in similar blade sized models; 7 1/4, 10 and 12 inch blade models are the most common.

The Sliding Compound Miter Saw is the most versatile of the miter saws. These saws encompass everything good in the other miter saws and take it one step further.

As the name implies, this saw type has a motor with blade attached mounted on a rail system that allows the assembly to slide away from the saw fence to make cuts to wider materials.

As a portable tool goes these can perform any crosscutting task you will encounter; finish trim work and framing alike. I personally like these because I can cut anything from small quarter round moldings all the way to boards for closet shelves and 2 by 12 framing materials.

Safe Operation Concerns; for most of us is centered on the question, how do I set up and use this tool? 'Always, Read and understand the instructions included in the operators manual that came with the tool'.

1. Start by setting the tool on a saw stand or work table at your waste level. There is nothing worse than trying to use a saw while on your hands and knees, your back will hate you for it in the morning. 2. Make sure you have something to support the ends of the material you will be cutting on both sides of the saw. The saw table is only a couple of feet wide and longer pieces of material will need extra support. 3. You will need an extension cord rated for the conditions you will be using the saw in. I will go as far to recommend you purchase a heavy duty cord rated for outdoor use and at least 15 amps of 120 volts of electricity.

How to make Adjustments to the Saw;

When you remove the saw from its' packaging the tool has the motor and blade assembly secured into the down position. To release the locking mechanism locate the knob directly behind the motor on the support frame, pull the spring loaded knob away from the frame to release the lock this allows' the motor to pivot up and down freely.

The sliding assembly of the saw is secured using a knob that screws down against the rail, located on top of the slide frame that the saw motor and blade assembly is attached to.

Loosen the knob by turning it in a counter clock wise direction. When using this feature, remember to start your cut by; raising the motor assembly above the piece to be cut, slide the assembly towards you, squeeze the trigger to start the saw motor and plunge the blade into the material you are cutting and slide the blade through the material from the outer most edge of the material to the saw fence.

Adjust the miter angle using the pivot feature incorporated in the saw table. Loosen the locking knob, rotate the pivot assembly to the desired angle and secure the locking knob, this will keep the saw angle setting from inadvertently being changed.

How to Make a Cut;

Making a cut requires, the material to be cut is placed laying flat on the saw table. To ensure the materials lay flat on the saw table support either ends of the material by using supporting stands to ensure safe and accurate cuts.

The next step is to secure the material against the saw fence, this ensures accuracy.

Align the reference mark you made on the material where you want your cut made with the edge of the saw blade. Using the laser feature that is included on some high end models is a big help. Remember the blade cut will remove 1/8 of an inch of material per cut, this includes hands and fingers so keep them out of harms way.

Put on your safety glasses and sound suppressors before starting the saw.

Now you are ready to make your cut, grasp the control handle on the saw. Pull the motor and blade assembly towards you and past the edge of the material that is away from the fence.

Start the motor on the saw by squeezing and holding the trigger located on the control handle and allow the motor to get to full speed.

Push the handle down towards the saw table, then push the motor and blade assembly away from your body in the direction of the fence to cut the material, remember slow and steady.

Congratulations, you have just discovered the secrets to using and what to purchase with your saw to ensure safe operation. Now go have fun be safe and build something...

Used Band Saw - How to Get the Best Deal Possible

A used band saw is a great way to get access to a highly efficient cutting tool at a bargain. However, if you don't know what you are doing then you can easily get ripped off. In this article, I'll tell you what to look for and how to get this piece of equipment for a cheap price.

Dewalt Saw Blade

What Are You Cutting?

Dewalt Saw Blade

You need a different type of band saw depending on whether you are only going to cut wood or also need to cut metal.

If you don't need to cut metal or you can do so via other means then I highly suggest getting a regular wood band saw. It will be cheaper and take up less space.

Spares

A band saw has a few replaceable parts that need changing from time to time as they wear out or otherwise degrade. The chief component in this regard is the cutting blade.

But if you buy an old band saw that is no longer supported by the manufacturer then you will not get much use out of it and will have to throw the machine away when it no longer cuts very well!

Look for one of the major brands such as Black & Decker, Grizzly, Milwaukee, Jet, DeWalt, Hitachi and Ryobi. These will be supported for many years.

Delivery Costs

Band saws are very heavy. Try to collect the band saw by car if you can. Otherwise you will have to shell out a lot of dough.

Stick To The Specialists

Online auction sites like eBay are very good if you are looking for spare parts like blades and guides but it is much more of a minefield if you are looking for a used band saw (not to mention the cost of delivery).

I recommend avoiding these sites and sticking to specialist stores. You will be able to walk in and see a variety of models. Each will be reconditioned to full working order and come with a parts and labour guarantee. Shipping (if you need it) will also be affordable.

Most cities have at least one store that specialises in used machinery.

Tips For Power Equipment Safety

Power equipments are now part of every home as they are convenient and easy and quick to use and also save a lot of precious time. The common P.E use toady are lawnmowers, saws, trimmers, chain saws and edger equipment. Although using power equipment save time and energy but it is not enough, you should be aware of the important safety cautions regarding that equipment. To follow these safety tips are essential to ensure your safety as P.E can harm you in one or another.

Importance of Safety

Dewalt Saw Blade

It is estimated by CPSC that about 10 percent of electrocutions occur due to improper usage of P.E at home. But this can be avoided easily by having an appropriate knowledge about the usage and precautions of P.E. Safety is prior to all things.

Protective Clothing

To ensure safety, it is important to use protective or safety clothing. Always use goggles to protect your eyes. But it largely depends on power equipment you are operating. You may have to use full face goggle in some cases.

Always use gloves and wear closed toe shoes if possible. This will protect you from any unwanted situation or injury.

Is is usually have some sort of motor working in them and those are very capable to catch any loose clothing. So make sure that you have tucked in shirts or you have worn dress which doesn't have any loose endings.

Operator's Manual

Operator's manual plays a very important role in your safety. Mostly people do not read the manual properly and do not follow the instructions given in it, eventually sustain serious injuries. It is important to read the manual thoroughly and follow the instructions firmly.

Clear the Debris

Another way to ensure safety is to clear all the loose and junky stuff from the cleaning area. Power equipment has the tendency to pull the stuff and throw it at you with force. This will sometimes cause serious damages and injuries to you.

Inspect Equipment

Before working on any power equipment it is necessary to examine it carefully. Examine all the cords, blades or other parts to make sure that everything is in proper working condition. Using this with damage parts can be dangerous.

Power Cords and Blade Changing

To ensure safety always use the recommended electrical sources for your power equipment. You can take help from operator's manual to get the right information about your power equipment. Try not to cross over power cords while working with power equipment. Never plug in or unplug the cords from the outlets while P.E is on.

If you want to change the blades make sure that the equipment is off and unplugged. Be very careful while changing the blades as blades usually have sharp edges.

Hold the Equipment Securely

While operating it hold it tightly with both the hands. Take special care while operating trimmers, cutters and mowers and try to walk behind these equipments. To avoid any damage or injuries, do not let the equipment operate without any supervision.

Choosing A Sliding Compound Miter Saw For Fine Woodworking

The sliding compound miter saw tops the list of woodworking tools that can make accurate and smooth angled cuts used in everything from fine cabinet work to house building. Its lesser cousins include cut-off saws, so-called "chop saws" and any miter saw without the slide.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Do you need a 12" saw or will a 10" model do? The pros of choosing a 12" machine over a 10" unit are greater cutting height and depth and usually more power. The advantage of a 10" model is lower weight and lower cost. If a 10" saw will make all the cuts you can envision making in your shop or on the job site, by all means choose the smaller design. Most features and overall quality will be similar or identical within any particular brand.

Dewalt Saw Blade

Obviously, features such as maximum height of cut, maximum depth of cut, horsepower and weight will be different and you can see those differences clearly when several machines are compared side-by-side.

The obvious advantage of a sliding compound miter saw over a standard model (without a slide) is that you can crosscut wider lumber in a single pass. With or without the slide, a miter saw can make chop cuts. A chop cut will always give you a finer, smoother result but on wider lumber, you may need to push-through as well and that is what the miter saw slide makes possible.

There are many things to look for in shopping for the best design. Which saw you pick will depend largely on what you plan to do with it. If you are looking for a permanently bench-mounted saw in a woodworking shop, you don't need to concern yourself so much with size and weight. However, if you are planning to tote your miter saw to and from and around various job sites every day, size and weight will become very important as will a well-located carrying handle.

Most miter saws (with one, notable exception) are priced in the same neighborhood and so, if you are comparing models, price should not be a consideration. Concentrate on the features that are most important to you because, in this way, there can be significant differences between machines.

So, what are you going to be using your saw for? If you are just going to be making repetitive crosscuts into 2 x 4 lumber, just about any of these machines will suffice. You might, however, want to choose one with soft start and an electronic brake. If, on the other hand, you will be making critically accurate cuts into expensive hardwoods or crown molding, it would seem that accuracy, micro fine adjustment controls with digital LCD readout, large vertical height capacity and an excellent laser might top your list of requirements. Is the laser adjustable to left or right of the blade? One model even features dual lasers, one down each side of the blade, clearly and accurately marking out the kerf the blade will make before the cut is made.

Other important considerations relate to bevel and miter adjustments. Look at how far, left and right, these adjustments can be made. Sometimes, 45 degrees just is not enough of an angle. Look how easily and accurately these adjustments can be made on each of these woodworking tools. Does the unit allow for micro fine adjustments? How many pre-set detents are there in both the miter and bevel scales? Can you make a cut near, but not exactly on a detent? Is there a miter detent override? Where are the controls and how do they work? Is everything within easy reach and easy to operate?

What kind of blade comes with the tool and what size is the arbor hole? If the answer is something other than 5/8" or 1", you may be locked into buying your blades directly from the saw manufacturer and you may well find better blades elsewhere. Usually, when I purchase a miter saw, I discard the blade and replace it with one that will make the smoothest, most accurate cuts possible like the Forrest Chopmaster. The extra expense is absolutely worth it if you are making critically accurate joints in fine hardwoods or crown molding. If you are only making rough cuts into fir for framing, you might want to consider a blade with fewer teeth and a more aggressive cut.

How is dust collection accomplished with each saw? Does the port match the hose on your shop vacuum or will you have to depend on a dust bag? Will you have to buy a new vacuum that fits your new machine? How much percentage of total dust made by your saw will your vacuum system and dust port remove?

Is the motor on the saw you are considering direct or belt drive? Does this model have soft start, electronic speed control or variable speed? Is the motor large enough for the jobs that will be presented to it? How large is the miter saw table (for stability of large work pieces)? How much does the tool weigh (for portability)? How is the cord stored when the tool is being carried to the job site?

There's really a lot to think about before you choose the best sliding compound miter saw for your needs. Take your time and think it through carefully. You'll be glad you did!
